The CamoTEXtreme consortium met for the project's official kick-off on 1 April 2026 at the European Defence Agency's offices in Brussels, setting the work plan in motion for the next 36 months.
Representatives from all 19 CamoTEXtreme partners gathered at the European Defence Agency's headquarters in Brussels for the project's kick-off meeting, marking the formal start of a three-year effort to develop multifunctional textiles for multispectral camouflage and resistance to extreme environmental conditions.
The day brought together partners from seven European countries — Portugal, Poland, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, Greece and Slovenia — and opened with introductions, a walkthrough of the overall work plan, and alignment on the seven work packages that structure the programme. Partners presented their respective roles and capabilities, and the consortium agreed on the practical framework for the iterative R&D cycles that will run across WP200 through WP700.
Highlights of the day
- Welcome from the EDA and overview of CamoTEXtreme's strategic alignment with the EU Capability Development Priorities.
- Presentation of the full 36-month work plan and the seven work packages, led by the coordinator.
- Short introductions from each partner covering roles, infrastructure and prior experience.
- Discussion of governance, reporting cadence and the six progress-review milestones.
- Alignment on the first deliverables due at month 6 — including operational requirements and the initial state-of-the-art reports.
The kick-off also served as the first face-to-face opportunity for several of the partners, and helped build the working relationships that will be essential to the iterative, cross-disciplinary nature of the project. Discussions continued informally through the day, with early agreement on communication channels, document sharing and the schedule of the next progress review at month 6.

With the kick-off now complete, activity moves to the first parallel work packages, WP200 (operational requirements) and WP300 (technologies and materials survey), which run through the early months of the project and feed into the core R&D phase starting at month 5.
